I believe the quality of healthcare in the United States is the finest in the world. But the cost of that world-class healthcare is rising faster than the average American family can afford. In fixing the problem, let’s make sure we don’t throw out the baby with the bath water.
Today’s system is much like veterinary medicine. You take your sick dog to see the vet and after the examination, you and the vet discuss the course of action. Everyone has a say in the treatment but . . . the dog. Today’s patients have little say-so in their treatment, the price or how its paid since the government and insurance companies control the entire system. We need to put the PATIENT in charge of their healthcare.
More competition is desperately needed in our health care system. Healthcare consumers need more choices. Take my small software company for example. If we need paper clips, we can receive bids from SEVEN different suppliers of paper clips. But when we bid out our company’s health care plan, we have only TWO to choose from. Government involvement restricts competition – that’s why I STRONGLY support the 100% repeal of ObamaCare.
I support allowing individuals and companies to purchase health insurance across state lines. Small businesses should be allowed to band together to better negotiate health insurance premiums, much like todays retailers join buying groups to reduce their inventory costs. Wherever free markets thrive, costs are reduced while quality and access increase.
I support ending the discriminating tax treatment of healthcare – lets level the playing field in the tax code by allowing every American to fully deduct the cost of health insurance premiums.
I will also work to enact lawsuit abuse reforms which will rein in the un-necessary costs of physicians practicing defensive medicine to avoid lawsuits.
Let’s fix what is broken in health care without breaking what is working.
