AGRICULTURE
Iowa is well known around the world as an agricultural dynamo. As the leading producer of pork, corn, soybeans and eggs, Iowa’s agriculture industry is the foundation of the state’s economy and feeds millions of people around the world.
In addition to being some of the most productive business owners in the world, Iowa farmers exemplify a couple of the principles of my campaign: hard work and personal responsibility.
America sorely needs exports – our balance of trade has exceeded $5.6 trillion over the last decade. This makes our country poorer. One bright spot in our exports is food and commodities and Iowa plays a large role in that. Congress needs to continue working to open up foreign countries to the products produced by Iowa farmers.
I strongly support eliminating the death tax – death should not be a taxable event. Iowa farmers should be able to pass on the fruits of their life’s labor to their heirs. It’s immoral for farm families to be forced to sell a family farm because of death taxes.
Iowa agriculture is about small business and family corporations – their concerns are the same concerns of small business everywhere. Issues such as increased tax rates, increased regulations, increased energy costs and sound infrastructure are issues important to all businesses.
