SECOND AMENDMENT
Our Founding Fathers wrote the Second Amendment to the Constitution because they feared a federal government out of control, and they sought to guarantee states and individuals the right to bear arms specifically to protect them against a federal government that would take their rights away.
Richard Henry Lee, a Virginia delegate to the Continental Congress and member of the first Continental Congress which passed the Bill of Rights, said, “To preserve Liberty, it is essential that the whole body of the people always possess arms, and be taught alike, especially when young, how to use them."
The Second Amendment to the Constitution was ratified by the States in 1791, and it took only 31 years before the first court cases were filed to challenge the “individual right” of the Second Amendment.
The Second Amendment has been under assault ever since, and President Obama has continued to wage war on the Second Amendment as evidenced by the failed gun-walking scheme of Attorney General Eric Holder called “Fast and Furious.”
I don’t think Richard Henry Lee could have ever imagined the Obama Administration orchestrating a plot to undermine the Second Amendment by giving automatic weapons to criminals and drug gangs from Mexico so they could murder U.S. citizens and Border Patrol agents in order to push for more gun control laws. How much more evidence do we need to demonstrate how far some will go to disarm Americans.
We don’t need more gun control laws, we need a federal government willing to enforce the gun control laws that we already have in place.
I support and will defend Americans right to bear arms as created by our Founding Fathers and reinforced by the Supreme Court.
Bruce Braley is one of President Obama’s loudest cheerleaders in this battle. Gun Owners of America give Braley a grade of “F“ -- “An Anti-Gun Leader: outspoken anti-gun advocate who carries anti-gun legislation.” Since 2009 Bruce Braley voted against gun owners 10 times, including issues of free speech, and issues that would make it easier for the federal government to search databases and identify gun owners.
I own a handgun because I live in a rural area and I want to protect my family against a home invasion. I am a member of the National Rifle Association (NRA). The Second Amendment is not about preserving the right to shoot deer and ducks. My right to bear arms guarantees a more fundamental right: the right to protect and preserve my own life and the lives of my family. It exists as my defense against burglars, bandits, and ultimately to protect my family from the government should it ever become destructive toward my life or my liberty.
